Bord Gáis Energy Limited intend to apply for planning permission for development at Glanagow and Corkbeg (townlands), Whitegate, Co. Cork, within a total site area of 3.15 hectares within the curtilage of the Whitegate Power Station. The proposed development consists of a 10 year Planning Permission for a Grid Stability Service Development including the provision of a synchronous condenser enclosed within a building of approximately 552m² gross floor area and approximately 12.1 metres in height, associated plant and apparatus including 8 no. modular electrical control containers with a combined gross floor area of approximately 238m², 3 no. transformers, external cooling equipment, an external circuit breaker, fuel tank and containerised emergency diesel generator with a gross floor area of approximately 30m². The proposed development also seeks permission for the provision of a 220kV electrical cabling connection to the nearby Glanagow 220kV substation, lightning protection masts, lighting, security fencing, the provision of a new access track and localised widening of existing access road, the removal of 4 no. existing modular buildings (currently in use as offices, staff and storage facilities) and associated foundations, and all associated ancillary site and development works.

Relocation and modifications to permitted development to include 2 no. demineralised water storage tanks, raw water storage tank, 220kV switchyard control building, AGI boiler house and pipe bridge to ConocoPhilips, relocation of caustic and acid storage tanks, process water discharge pit, fuel oil storage tank in bund, fuel oil forwarding skid, sewage treatment plant, storm water attenuation tank and turbine coolers; extension to water treatment plant building for firewater pumps, provision of 3 no. weatherproof kiosks for instrumentation and equipment and a pressure reduction skid building in the Gas pressure reducing, filtering and metering skid area and lowering of permitted ground levels across the site by between 1m and 4m.

Permission for retention of buildings and retention for alterations to existing permitted buildings at their power generating station. (Permitted Development granted under planning Reference Nos. 06/10126, 07/8356 and 07/13433), The permission for retention includes minor alterations to the following permitted buildings; Gas Compressor Building, Workshop/ warehouse/ canteen building including retention of new mezzanine level. Heat Recovery Steam Generator Building and the relocation of the Storm Water Attenuation Tank. The changes include minor alterations to area, building finish, heights and location. The buildings for permission for retention include: Waste Water Treatment Building, Air Cooled Condenser Control Building, Auxiliary Boiler Building and the Electrical Building. These buildings include changes to building area, building finish, building height and orientation to previously permitted development. Retention permission is also sought for a new Gas Reduction Station Boiler and Electrical Building and a new MV switch room building including all site and plant works associated with the alterations and new buildings described above.
