10 year duration permission is sought for imerc site development works on lands 6.06 ha. adjacent to the National Maritime College of Ireland (NMCI) and the Beaufort Laboratory (under construction planning Ref. No. 11/5487). The proposed development includes the construction of new vehicular access road and footpath, together with associated drainage works, public lighting and soft landscaping. The proposed new road will be accessed via the existing access road and entrance from Haulbowline Road (currently under construction, granted under Planning Ref. No. 11/5487). The proposed footpath will continue to Haulbowline Road on the southern side of the main access road

The removal of 8 no. car parking spaces permitted under Cork County Council planning application 11/5487, and their replacement with the construction of an open-air outdoor enclosure comprising of a concrete base, timber panel security fence and access gateways, fixed to the existing in-situ concrete wall, and all associated development. The enclosure will house a test rig, consisting of pipe work,3 no. water tanks, and electronic equipment, mounted on a steel framed platform (a skid) to facilitate transport by road and ease of installation and allow for the removal of the rig once testing is complete after approximately 3 years.

Construction of a Maritime Research and Testing Centre on lands 1.82ha. adjacent to the National Maritime College of Ireland (NMCI). The proposed development includes the construction of a new vehicular access road and footpath to the site from the public road near the bridge to Rocky Island and Haulbowline Island and the demolition of the existing disused warehouse circa 3,883 sq.m. area. The new building will comprise a single storey, high volume marine testing facility with overall height varying from 8m to 10m approx. and a research facility three storeys high, overall height c.19.37m, total floor area 5,132 sq.m. Ancillary to the building are internal access roads, parking to be provided in two phases up to a total of 89 car parking and 10 bicycle parking spaces in a covered bay, a separate ESB sub station and switchroom, storage bins for materials, a pumping station, windbreak to terrace, boundary fence treatment including two gates to NMCI, one gate to access road, also panel sign at proposed new access point on Haulbowline Road, exterior lighting and hard and soft landscaping.

Permission for the relocation and erection of a small micro generation research wind turbine at the north -eastern corner of the site. The wind turbine will be used to provide power to the Beaufort Building and for the educational purposes. The project involves: 1) construction of a concrete foundation for the turbine (measuring 12.25m2), 2) erection of the tower and turbine (metal lattice tower and turbine with tip height of 19.1m) and 3) associated site works, fencing and utility connections
