Proposed Development
The Electricity Supply Board (ESB) intends to apply for permission for a 10-year approval for development at this site consisting of up to approximately 3.72 kilometres (km) of 38 kilovolts (kV) underground cable (UGC) across 3 no. routes at different locations in Dublin City with a total site area of c.4.23ha. The proposed UGC are located at the Ashtown, Glasnevin and North Wall areas within Dublin City. The proposed development consists of the following elements: • Installation of 3no. new 38 kV underground cable routes, or cable route sections, and all associated site and development works within the administrative area of Dublin City Council (DCC) as outlined below and illustrated on the maps herein: - The proposed Coolmine cable route section within DCC is approximately 1.14km in length connecting the permitted Ashtown 38 kV substation (ACP Ref. 314232) to the County Border with Fingal at Navan Road (R147). - The proposed Glasnevin cable route is wholly within DCC and is approximately 1.2km in length connecting the existing Glasnevin 38kV substation to the permitted Clareville 38kV substation (ACP Ref. 314232). - The proposed North Quays cable route is wholly within DCC and is approximately 1.38km in length connecting the permitted Spencer Dock 38kV substation (ACP Ref. 314232) with the existing 38 kV circuit on East Wall Road (R131). The primary purpose of the proposed underground cables is to provide electrical power to the Dart+ West Railway project as granted under the DART+ West Railway Order (ACP Ref. 314232). The proposed underground cable routes will incorporate the following elements: • Communication links and fibre optic cables between all substations in the same trench as the UGC; • Joint bays and communication chambers along the UGC alignment; • Temporary construction laydown and work areas with ancillary staff facilities and parking, temporary access tracks, passing bays and water and utility crossings. • All associated and ancillary above and below ground site development works, including works comprising or relating to permanent and temporary construction and roadworks and excavation (including HDD) and vegetation clearance.
