The development consists of two plant rooms for operating the storm gates permitted by Planning Permission 12/00651. One of the plant rooms will be located on Duffy's Pier, the other at the outer end of the Breakwater Pier will be the main Control Room for the operation of the Storm Gates

Alterations to Duffy's Pier. The works will raise, widen and strengthen the pier and will include filling, sheet piling, reinforced concrete and associated works. Demolish an existing Control Building and construct a new Control building in its place to suit revised pier levels. The spine wall dividing the inner and outer basins will be altered locally so that the inner basin can continue to be closed off by stop logs in an emergency. The Planning Application will be accompanied by a Natura Impact Statement.
